This might not qualify as a third place but Metropolis is one of my favorite coffees and that’s the $1 dollar cup of coffee they offer at the Doughnut Vault to accompany their generously-sized and delicious doughnuts.

They have three locations in Chicago, but this is the one on Franklin St. in River North.

The interior is tiny. So much so that you definitely need to get out before someone comes in or there’ll be some awkward and uncomfortable moments amongst the patrons.

However, they have a beautiful seating area outside with five tables surrounded by planters.

They have a rotating daily special plus a fixed set of choices but they’re made daily and they run out fairly quickly, so you gotta hustle.
